Back To The Future: Summer – Fall 2006/2007

What’s good everybody? It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here, and I’m going on hiatus for a moment, so I just thought I’d give y’all something new to keep you all updated.

This is shaping up to be a hot summer. While I’m not in NY or LA as I had planned, I’m doing my thing even more on the homefront. I’m moving to Detroit next week, where I’ll be working a regular 9-to-5, along with putting in work with two marketing companies as well. But my journalism career is what I’m really excited about. I’ll be doing the following:

Revamping this site with a brand new design courtesy of the much-heralded MOSologist, new sections on the blog, and most likely, my own URL that’ll redirect to the blogspot jumpoff. I’m also open to any ideas, and I’m actually thinking about getting some new writers, so holla at ya boy. Thanks to all that have already supported that blog, but to those who haven’t, you’re going to get more reason to.
Flexing my creative control muscle as the Online Hip-Hop Singles Editor for URB magazine’s web site. I’m reviewing hip-hop singles, and assigning guest reviews to random people in the business, whether their artists, executives, etc. This is my first time having any editorial/creative control with another publication, so I’m looking forward to it. To see where I’m at with it so far, click here and bookmark it.
Really starting my takeover of HipHopDX. Y’all have already seen my game as far as regular hip-hop features, but now, I’m going to be making even more noise. Me and writer Melanie Cornish are heading the bi-weekly Producer’s Corner section, where we’ll be interviewing all of your favorite knob twisters (and when I “say all of your favorites,” I mean that literally) on their skills behind the boards. For the first segment of this, peep my interview with Swizz Beatz, then check Melanie’s interview with Nitti. Also, me and up-and-coming journalist Legend are doing a monthly Mixtape Wrap-Up section (For Promotional Use Only, ha).
-Expanding my scope as a writer. With DXStyle.net, the fashion section of HipHopDX, I’ll be heading a technology column in which I highlight the illest gadgets and devices to hit the market. I’ll also be getting my fashion writing on, spotting trends, interviewing your favorite hip-hop figures who are involved in the fashion world, and giving shine to the illest up-and-coming clothing lines. My first piece in this section was a criminally slept-on interview with Amanda Diva. Hip-hop’s my wifey, but gadgets and gear are my mistresses, and I’m excited to foray into other areas.
Continuing my freelance hustle. Stay tuned to new issues of XXL, SCRATCH and URB for articles on celebrity barber Bobby Henderson Jr., production trio Young World Music (Swizz Beatz, “Money In The Bank”), and 22-year-old Atlantic Records Director of A&R Sickamore.

To make things short, there’s going to be a lot of cashed checks, Paypal transactions, direct deposits, and anything else that involves legal money.
