Danny Brown – “Hot Soup” for the Hip-Hop Soul

And Michigan’s hip-hop winning streak continues. K-Fresh from RenSoul was ahead of the curve when he posted his “All-Inclusive Danny Brown Appreciation Post” in April, but now that I’ve actually listened to the dude, I’m pretty impressed. Homie’s upcoming album, Hot Soup, is produced entirely by fellow Detroiter Nick Speed (Libido Sounds/G-Unit producer behind 50 Cent’s “What If,” Talib Kweli’s “Everything Man,” and a personal fav., Phat Kat & Guilty Simpson’s “Nightmare,” amongst others).

At MichiganHipHop, we just premiered “Squeeze Precisely,” a song from the album that features Big Pooh of Little Brother. This is destined to get tons of spins on my Roland monitors – Speed gave him a crazy beat, and both Danny and Pooh rip their verses (even though Pooh’s voice is completely different). Check that link, both to stream it and to get the .mp3. Below, see the YouTube commercial for Hot Soup. This is Nick Speed’s first full-length project, so it’ll be interesting to see how he holds it together sonically. And if Danny Brown’s got this much heat for an entire album, then they’re in even better shape.

Also, from the aforementioned K-Fresh blog, here are three Danny Brown mixtapes to get further acquainted with dude.

Anyway, I’m out. Gotta get at least two hours before I get back on the grind.
